In a region defined by rapid urban expansion, tight construction schedules, and climate-driven demands, the Middle East is emerging as a leading testbed for modular construction. But this shift is about more than speed, it’s about creating smarter, more resilient, sustainable cities.

At the intersection of structural engineering, digital innovation, and urban planning, modular construction is no longer a transitional trend. It is a forward-looking strategy for scalable, sustainable development.

Building Faster, Safer, and Smarter

Modular construction is transforming how cities evolve. At Parsons, we have successfully delivered fully precast modular buildings in live, high-density urban environments—including areas with ongoing residential activity and logistical constraints. The advantages are clear:

  • Cleaner construction sites through off-site fabrication.
  • Accelerated schedules enabled by parallel workflows and rapid on-site assembly.
  • Improved safety especially in congested or sensitive zones.

This approach also enables enhanced quality control and predictable structural performance. Several of our modular-first projects have achieved LEED certification by significantly reducing on-site carbon emissions, minimizing material waste and lowering energy consumption.

To support these outcomes, Parsons leverages advanced digital construction tools. For example, our implementation of OpenSpace, an artificial intelligence (AI) and 360-degree imagery platform, enables real-time visual tracking and quality control on-site, allowing construction activities to remain compliant with design models and integrate with BIM data. This facilitates higher site productivity while maintaining design integrity.

A key structural innovation in modular delivery is the use of semi-rigid modular joints, designed to act as passive energy dissipators. These connections enhance ductility and overall resilience in response to seismic activity or wind loads.

Resilience Meets Intelligence

Beyond speed, modular construction provides a framework for agile, adaptive urban growth. Whether addressing housing demand, population shifts, or climate change, modular systems offer scalable, repeatable, and structurally intelligent solutions.

Meanwhile, digital technologies continue to streamline delivery:

  • AI-powered layout optimization reduces material usage and foundation loads.
  • BIM-to-fabrication workflows increase accuracy and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Digital Twins and Asset Information Models (AIMs) support smarter operations and lifecycle planning, through real-time data integration, performance monitoring, and predictive maintenance insights across the asset lifecycle.

These technologies are embedded from the earliest design stages to align modular construction with project objectives and quality benchmarks.

In addition, Parsons offers its own digital twin solution, Paradim®—a cloud-hosted, software-agnostic platform for asset and data information management. Paradim® helps unlock the full value of legacy and commercial systems, providing organizations with reliable, real-time insights critical to operational performance and strategic planning.

Driving Digital Twin Adoption with Paradim® Across the Asset Lifecycle

Designing With Purpose

To unlock the full benefits of modular construction, a strategic shift in mindset is required:

  • Design for manufacturing from the outset, not as a retrofit.
  • Use BIM proactively, for fabrication modeling, carbon tracking, and asset integration.
  • Engage stakeholders early, across disciplines—from structural and MEP to logistics and fabrication.
  • Embed life cycle costing (LCC) into modular design strategies so that material choices, fabrication methods, and assembly systems deliver long-term value across the asset’s entire lifecycle—not just initial construction savings.
  • Think beyond speed, and prioritize reuse, adaptability, and circularity in design.

Conclusion: The Future Is Scalable

The Middle East’s built environment demands more than rapid delivery—it requires foresight, resilience, and long-term sustainability. Modular construction, empowered by digital transformation, structural innovation, and data-driven planning, offers a smarter, scalable path forward for both buildings and cities.

So what if in the future cities could be built like LEGO? With modular innovation, that future is already under construction.

Championing Youth Sports And Community Spirit

As the newest member of the Kamloops community, Parsons believes in making meaningful contributions that resonate with our core values of innovation, integrity, and inclusion. This belief was brought to life over the weekend of June 1-2, as we had the privilege of supporting an event that lies at the heart of these values—the local 3×3 Hoops in the Loops Tournament, which supports the KidSport Foundation.

Gives Back

For those unfamiliar, KidSport is a remarkable organization dedicated to ensuring all kids can participate in organized sports by helping to remove financial barriers. As a volunteer high school basketball coach and an advocate for youth athletics, I have witnessed firsthand how sports can transform lives by fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience among young people. This event was not just an opportunity for Parsons to support a great cause; it was also a chance for me to blend my personal passion with our company’s mission to make a difference in our new home.

The tournament brought together kids I have had the honor of coaching in various capacities. Some I used to coach, some I currently coach, and even future stars I look forward to coaching. Seeing their energy and enthusiasm on the court was nothing short of inspiring. It was a vivid reminder of why we do what we do both on and off the court. Events like these do not happen without sponsors and volunteers.

Parsons proudly contributed by providing trophies and basketballs for the winners in every division—a small token to celebrate their hard work and achievements. More importantly, through our contribution to KidSport, we helped ensure that more children will have access to sports programs that can change their lives for the better.

The weekend was filled with memorable moments—from breathtaking buzzer-beaters to heartfelt displays of sportsmanship. But beyond these moments of triumph were stories unfolding off-court: stories of communities coming together, barriers being broken down, and children finding joy in every dribble towards their dreams.

Gives Back

In addition to the joy and excitement on the court, the 3×3 Hoops in the Loops Tournament provided a unique opportunity for Parsons Kamloops to engage with our community in a more personal, neutral setting. As we cheered on the young athletes, I found myself amidst a diverse group of parents, local business owners, and community leaders—all gathered to support their children and this noble cause. These interactions were not just about watching the game; they became invaluable moments of connection.

Reflecting on this experience reaffirms my belief in the power of community engagement. At Parsons, we’re not just building projects; we’re committed to building stronger communities where every child has the opportunity to shine—both on and off the field (or court in this case!).

As we continue settling into Kamloops, events like this serve as important milestones in our journey. They remind us that while infrastructure builds cities, it is community spirit that builds homes. We are honored to be part of this vibrant community and excited about forging more connections through meaningful initiatives like this one.

I look forward to being part of more opportunities like this, it is clear that events supporting great causes like KidSport aren’t just about fundraising or sports; they’re vital platforms for building relationships within our community. These interactions remind us of the importance of being present—not only as professionals but as individuals passionate about making a positive impact where we live and work.

To everyone who participated or supported this wonderful cause—thank you! Your enthusiasm makes events like these possible and underscores what can be achieved when we come together for a common purpose.

We have been making a significant impact on education and community by providing scholarships to deserving college students for over a decade. Since 2010, we have awarded scholarships to 203 dependents of Parsons’ employees and have granted more than $1.9 million in scholarship funds to qualified students. This ongoing initiative highlights the corporation’s dedication to supporting higher education and fostering future leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), and other qualified majors.

Our Scholarship Programs

The Parsons Corporation Scholarship Program sponsors scholarships for dependent children of our employees pursuing studies in STEM or other qualified fields.

The Ralph M. Parsons Scholarship Award, created by an anonymous donor in honor of the corporation’s late founder Ralph M. Parsons and managed by the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU), is specifically for STEM majors enrolled at one of 16 private schools in California offering STEM curriculums. Recipients must have an above-average academic record and be actively engaged in their communities or extracurricular activities.

Celebrating Excellence

This year, we continue our tradition by granting $55,000 in scholarships to 11 exceptional students for the 2024-2025 academic year. We selected the recipients based on their outstanding academic achievements, community involvement, and leadership skills. To ensure impartiality in the selection process, we partnered with International Scholarship and Tuition Services (ISTS), a trusted organization known for its rigorous standards.

80th Anniversary

Parsons has come a long way since our start, in 1944. In that time, the world has witnessed people walking on the moon, the birth of the internet, the emergence of smart infrastructure, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and so much more. And Parsons was there through it all, achieving, innovating, and transforming the world as we transformed ourselves. In the ensuing decades, we’ve grown our capabilities, grown our company, and grown our impact in ways most observers couldn’t have predicted on day one.

Our founder, Ralph Parsons, said that the key to his company’s success would be to hire good people. The concept is simple in theory, but difficult in execution. Nevertheless, he pulled it off, getting the company off the ground with eight good people—six engineers, an administrative assistant, and himself—working out of an office in Los Angeles, California. The original intent was for Parsons to be operated as a small firm, but hiring good people resulted in even better success, and now, 80 years later, Parsons has evolved into a unique enterprise with a vibrant culture of more than 18,000 diverse, intelligent, talented people working around the globe to create the future of critical infrastructure and national security.

Because we’ve been involved in so many exciting individual projects, with more being added to the list all the time, it can be easy to lose perspective of the magnitude of Parsons’ impact on the world. Considering the enterprise more holistically, however, reveals a company whose capabilities and reach have resulted in landmark achievements and continue to produce endless possibilities throughout many growing markets.

Every day, as we’re innovating new solutions, people worldwide are riding on transit systems and driving on roads we engineered. They’re greeting family members at airports we helped imagine. They’re benefitting from our health research. They’re relying on our technological solutions to protect people, infrastructure, and information. They’re living in environments that we made cleaner.

Our record of stellar performance stretches from North America to the Middle East and from cyber space to outer space. Whether designing iconic bridges or smart giga-projects, transforming transportation or the battlespace, or shaping the ways we advance cyber operations or protect them, we’ve always worked to make the world smarter, safer, more connected, and more sustainable—and we always will.

Now, we’re celebrating Parsons 80th anniversary both as an achievement and as a launching point. Our accomplishments are not only milestones but steppingstones toward an even brighter future. With every project we undertake today, we’re not just solving current challenges; we’re anticipating those of tomorrow.

The day of our founding marked the beginning of not just a great company, but a great idea. An idea about what a group of talented people can do, how far they can take it, and what it can become. The whole roadmap may not have existed in 1944, but a clear path to success did—hiring good people with the vision to imagine next.

While on the MILVET Roadshow, Chuck visited the Navajo Reservation in Shiprock, NM to learn more about challenges facing Native American veterans.

For Parsons, engagement with the military is a priority, and as the Vice President of our Military and Veterans Affairs Program (MILVET), I am consistently pursuing ways to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with the military community. I recently took our MILVET Program on the road to the Rocky Mountain region which provided an outlet for personal and professional clarity and a renewed vigor to help transitioning servicemembers. Further, this trip provided the opportunity to visit a variety of military installations to engage with servicemembers and establish meaningful connections and partnerships – all with the goal to increase representation, inclusion, and belonging of veterans in the Parsons workforce.

Creating and establishing relationships with the base offices responsible for its Transition Assistance Program, Soldier for Life, Family Readiness, and Education programs (i.e., SkillBridge), is vital to our programs success and has been proven to be mutually beneficial in the following ways:

  1. Offers the ability to take part in transition classes which provides invaluable insight into the messages servicemembers are provided and identification of new challenges they’re facing to help shape our MILVET program to truly meet the needs of those transitioning from the military to civilian life.
  2. Allows the opportunity to authentically speak with transitioning servicemembers about what makes a “veteran-ready company” and what to look for and what to expect when navigating a post-military career fit.

Across the entire military spectrum, we show up and invests the time to ensure the military community knows what a “veteran-ready” company will do for maximum engagement of our transitioning military members.

I use the term “veteran-ready” instead of “veteran-friendly” because “veteran-friendly” indicates an established standard of a defined practice finding, recruiting, and hiring veterans. But, here at Parsons, we pride ourselves on challenging the standard. A veteran-ready organization, in contrast, takes veteran programs to the next level. Veteran-ready means we go beyond all the veteran-friendly requisites. We take care of our transitioning military so they can imagine next and feel confident and empowered in their next career opportunity with us.

We have special benefits for the military community like Reserve and Guard activation differential pay and benefit coverage, extra Annual Training coverage, free transition time off when returning from long orders and a team focused on their career mobility upon reintegration. We also have a strong MILVET employee business resource group with executive top cover, VA disability support, special military community mentoring and networking events, and a multitude of volunteer opportunities to help those in underserved military communities.

We can all engage and lean forward to help veterans – from employment preparation, business introduction and even family resiliency – there are many ways to support and give back to military communities. It doesn’t take a roadshow to contribute. With a little research, you can find local non-profits focused on military communities and find ways to engage and support.

As for Parsons, you can always count on more MILVET meet-ups in the future to authentically share our veteran-ready programs and listen to the needs of this unique community to ensure we are consistently adapting and ready to serve transitioning servicemembers – to seek maximum engagement because the military community is worth every roadshow mile.

Get a glimpse of the the inspiring journey in the video below, featuring Chuck during his MILVET roadshow!

As engineers, we like to plan, but often, true delight can come from the unpredictable and spontaneous. If you know me, you probably know I live on Long Island. After a light snowstorm one morning, my wife and I decided it’d be nice to spend the day “Out East,” taking in the snowy sights and enjoying one of our favorite pizza places in Sag Harbor. Quite by accident, we found ourselves in Springs, NY.

Now, if you’ve read Chapter One of “The Story of Parsons Corporation” titled “The Early Years,” you’d know that Ralph M. Parsons was born to a fisherman in Springs, NY, and raised in neighboring Amagansett, NY – both modest in affluence despite their proximity to the wealthy East Hampton, home to many celebrities and well-known magnates. Well, until today, that was just a simple factoid in the back of my mind. But as you can imagine, I became very excited after noticing a large sign over an old red building that read “Parsons Blacksmith.” After executing a VERY SAFE U-turn, I was able to trudge through the snow to peer inside at a very familiar setting – you see, my father is a blacksmith!

Did you think this was going to be some history about Parsons Corporation? That’d be fitting for our 80th anniversary, but in fact, this is a story with some history of the Parsons Family.

Right next to the blacksmith shop at Parsons Place is the Springs Town Community Library, housed in the Ambrose Parsons House, which was added to the National Historic Register in 1995. And, thanks to Linda, the Librarian, I was able to make my way upstairs to the historical society archives and flip through the files on the Parsons Family. One day, I’ll have to go back to read through the files more closely, but I was able to learn a few things:

  1. The Blacksmith Shop was owned by Ralph’s uncle Charles.
  2. The Blacksmith Shop was moved to its current location sometime after 1981. The move was made possible by a grant from the Ralph M Parsons Foundation! As the son of a blacksmith, I can very much relate to the spirit of building, solving problems, and tinkering, which no doubt grew inside young Ralph, working around the forge and anvil. You’ll note there’s a photograph of a young Ralph forging steel in one of the attached photos.
  3. The Parsons family seems to have played a prominent role in the Springs community, though it will take further study to appreciate the breadth and depth – I’m not yet sure WHO Ambrose Parsons was.

I hope to make it back to learn more about the family, but a copy of “The Story of Parsons Corporation” will be en route to the Historical Society next week. Below are a few photographs from my serendipitous experience. Enjoy!
